Speedwell – Veronica persica — also known as Gypsy weed. It has a small, about 1 cm wide, solitary flowers. The top three petals are larger and more vibrant than the bottom smaller petal. Flowers open on sunny days on thin stalks flowers all year round—and low to the ground, avoiding the lawnmower: )
Speedwell was used by gypsies as a blood purifier. The leaves are bitter and sometimes— back in the day— were used in salads. You can simmer it into a tea and is said to remove excess mucus, treat coughs, asthma and clear sinus congestion—among other things. Can you believe that this beautiful herb grows in your yard?
