Yarrow — Achillea millefolium
The other day I was pulled the Yarrow card from my Herbiary illustrated Oracle Deck (check out Maia Toll). It was a timely card.
I planted yarrow in my front bed because I love this plant. I love the story of how Yarrow got its name- from the Greek God Achilles. Yarrow is also known as the Soldier’s Woundwort. It was said that Roman soldiers would place the leaves of Yarrow on their wounds to stop the bleeding. I’ve been using Yarrow for years now in teas. It is a diaphoretic (one of its many actions), which makes it excellent to take when you have a fever—helping enhance the body’s reaction. At the beginning of a cold or flu, you can combine elderberry flowers, lemon balm, mint and Yarrow for an excellent cold fighting tea. On my walk today, I just saw a yarrow plant along the trail. It was fighting for its space among the other plants, growing toward the sun. I took a stem of flowers and placed in my locket.
Yarrow is a warrior and so am I.
